Marvin D. Guffey, 49, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2008 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Marvin was born March 25, 1959 in Topeka, the son of Willard "Glen" and Stella (Ray) Guffey. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1977.
After working a few years at Goodyear, he was employed as a carpenter with the State of Kansas where he had worked for over 25 years. He held the "Lead Carpenter Role" in many projects for family and friends.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed dates with his wife, fishing, car shows and playing Texas Hold-Em poker. He was a founding member of the Topeka Hot-Wheels Club and a dedicated garage sale attendant.
Marvin married Patsy Wasson on December 22, 2005. She survives. Other survivors include daughters, Ashlie Guffey, Robyn Wasson-Guffey; a granddaughter, Grace Lynn; brothers, John (Susan) Guffey, Paul (Lori) Guffey; twin brother, Melvin (Penny) Guffey; and parents, Glen and Stella Guffey; his mother and father-in-law, Howard and Earlene Wasson; brother-in-law, Howard (Benna) Wasson, Jr.; and nephew, Howard Wasson III. all of Topeka.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Marvin will lie in state from 5-9 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, at the First Baptist Church Parlor, 3035 SW Mac Vicar, where the family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, Kansas 66617.
