Marvin L. Godfrey, 79, of Topeka, passed away on June 1, 2022 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.
He was born on January 16, 1943 to John and Opal (Matney) Godfrey in Topeka. Marvin was raised in the Oakland Community where he resided his entire life.
He graduated from Topeka High School in 1961.
On August 18, 1964, he married Lou Ann Godfrey (Shields).
Marvin enjoyed going to World of Outlaw Sprint Races, watching the Big 12, especially KU Basketball. In his early days he was the manager and coach for his daughters fast pitch softball teams. His greatest thrill was traveling with them and going to the National Softball Tournament in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
He served as the PTA President and earned his lifetime membership for State Street Elementary School and also served as Carnival Chairman for over 10 years. He was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for several years and was a part of many committees.
Marvin is survived by loving wife of 57 years, Lou Ann; daughters, Kimberly M. (Barton) Egger, Susan L. (Robert) Mast, and Leslie A. (Bruce) Arbuthnot; and his sister, Charlotte Davenport; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a host of extended family members; and his beloved fur babies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Opal Godfrey; step-father, Theodore Hall; his grandson, Johnathan Beam; brother-in-law, Chuck Davenport; sister-in-law, Betty Vines; father-in-law, Marvin Shields; and mother-in-law, Marcella Shields.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Parker-Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm. Per Marvin's wishes, cremation will follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Parker Price Funeral Home.
