Marvin Dale Manis, 82, of Meriden, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010. Marvin was born on April 2, 1928, in Soldier, KS, the son of Everett and Lena Manis. On June 14, 1953, in Williamstown, he married Evalee Hackathorn. She survives.
Marvin grew up in the Holton area before joining the Unites States Army from 1950-52, later moving to Lecompton, where he worked for the railroad. He had worked for Goodyear 35 years before his retirement in 1993. Marvin enjoyed mushroom hunting and spending time in his garden. Marvin and Evalee enjoyed raising and showing horses with the family. He was best piddler in the world and liked woodworking and going to auctions.
Survivors include; his wife, Evalee; children, Tresa (Shawn) Castle, Randy Manis, and Durcy (Steve) Kight; grandchildren, Jeremy (Lisa) Shreve, Adam (Joanne) Shreve, Casey Penry, Justin (Autumn) Shreve, Cody (Jill) Penry, Matt (Brandy) Shreve, Brian Manis, Jamie Manis, Adam Tanous, and Joshua; and great grandchildren, Joshua, Rylie, Ethan, Mariah, Jeremy, Braxdon, Tyler, Evan, and one in the oven. He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Manis.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery. Mr. Manis will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contribution may be made to American Legion Post #225, Ozawkie, KS.
