OBITUARY: Martha Mae Melvin
Martha Mae Melvin, 82, Topeka, died Wed., July 20, 2011, at Atria Hearthstone. She was born May 24, 1929, at Hidalgo, TX, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller. She graduated from Seaman High School. Martha had worked at Lisa's Casuals and Litwin's. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Music was a special part of Martha's life and she sang at many weddings and funerals. Her home was always filled with music. Martha was married to Dean C. Melvin on Oct. 8, 1949, at Topeka. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2010. She was preceded in death by a son, Fred Dean Melvin, in 1980. Surviving are a son: Thomas G. Melvin (Karen) of Topeka; a daughter: Jodi K. Parker (Jeff) of Olathe; 2 sisters: Alice Ruth Stewart and Doris Falley (Bob) all of Oregon; a brother: Dr. Lloyd Miller of Pennsylvania; 5 grandchildren: Lacey Turpin (Mitch), Cooper Melvin (Cyrstal), Jessica Baumgarten (Will), Kelly Parker, and Brett Parker; and 3 great-grandchildren: Ethan and Cael Baumgarten, and Lilliana Melvin. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Sat., July 23, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Interment in Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Road, Topeka. Martha will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
