OBITUARY: Marlene Diane Counts
Marlene Diane Counts, 75, of Topeka, died Wed., Dec. 22, 2010, at Rollings Hills Health Center. She was born Feb. 24, 1935, at Clifton, the daughter of Elmer M. and Edna M. (Marshall) Peterson. She graduated from Clifton High School and Clarks Business School. She was office manager for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co.; worked at Counseling and Consultation Service; and owned and operated Counts Roofing and Guttering and Mama's Café. She was a member of the Clifton United Methodist Church and Clay Center Chapter # 180, OES. She was married to Jack G. Counts on May 7, 1963, in Topeka. Surviving are her husband: Jack G. Counts of the home; a son: Jack G. Mayfield of Scranton; 3 daughters: Frances "Tina" "Franny" Baker of Topeka, Connie Bickford of Houston, TX, and Barbara Murray of Topeka; a sister: Eileen Henry of Goodyear, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Mon., Dec. 27, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Helena Chapter # 210, OES will conduct Eastern Star Services. Entombment in Penwell-Gabel Mausoleum. Marlene will lie in state after 2:00 PM, Sun., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
