Marjorie Marie Hawkins, 85, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010.
She was born October 1, 1924 in Lane, KS, the daughter of Grover D. and Bessie V. (Elliott) Thompson. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob Hawkins on April 15, 1943. They opened and operated Bob's Jeweler's in Osawatomie. They both became diamondologists and gemologists managing for the Zales Corporation. They settled in Topeka and opened Bo-Mar's Jewelers. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie and currently a 31 year member of First United Methodist Church in Topeka.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Bob of Topeka; daughters, Niki Carlson (Gary), Union, MO, and their children, Scott, Kevin, Jeff and Brad, Nancy Smith (Thomas), Topeka, and their children, Kristina Abernathy, Kimberly Shufelberger, and Ashley Bunyar, Pam Martinek (Dennis), Silver Lake, KS, and their daughter Nicole; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mildred Novak of Seattle, WA and a grandson, Jeremy Martinek.
Mrs. Hawkins will lie in state after 2 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka. Graveside services will be 4 p.m., Monday at Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
