Marjorie Mae Mills
Marjorie Mae Mills, 89, Topeka, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her home. She was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Oskaloosa, to Ira and Rowena Gross. Her family moved to Topeka when she was young, and Marj attended local schools and graduated with honors from Highland Park Rural High School. After high school she attended and graduated from beauty school in Kansas City, Kan. Marj married Phil Mills on Oct. 6, 1934, in Topeka. He preceded her in death in March 1985. Although for awhile after her marriage she operated her own beauty shop, she always concentrated her life on Phil and their family. Later becoming an active member of Lowman United Methodist Church, continuing her homemaking, raising and enjoying her family, playing bridge, bowling and sewing filled her life. She is survived by her three children, Phil Mills Jr., Silver Lake, Dick Mills, Fort Pierce, Fla., and Patty Petersen, Portland, Ore. She also is survived by a sister, Donna Fountain, Maple Valley, Wash.; nine gran dchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lowman United Methodist Church, S.W. 15th and Gage Boulevard, Topeka. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Lowman United Methodist Church, S.W. 15th and Gage Boulevard, Topeka, 66604; or the charity of the donor's choice.
