OBITUARY: Marjorie Jean Brooks Sedlacek
Marjorie Jean Brooks Sedlacek, 69, Topeka, passed away at her home Thurs., April 27, 2006, after a short battle with cancer. She was born June 2, 1936, the daughter of Pearl and Leslie Brooks. Her father passed away when Marjorie was very young. Her mother married Clarin T. Edie.
Marjorie graduated from Topeka High School in 1954. As a young woman she worked at the Supply Depot at Forbes Field and later in life worked as a legal secretary for Cary Standiferd in Topeka. She and Marvin were active in the Shrine Hospital Dads Club. They made over 50 trips to Shriners' hospitals with kids. She was a member of West Side Christian Church.
She married States R. Scott III in 1954. They were divorced. She married Marvin Sedlacek on May 30, 1969. He survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Suzanne Scott, Wamego and Leslie Grindol, Memphis; a son, Stacy Scott, Ottawa. She also is survived by a step-son, Brad Sedlacek, Topeka, and step-daughters, Melody Weller, Topeka and Debbie Stadel, Arizona. She has 6 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence; followed by interment of cremains in Mount Hope Cemetery.
