Marion L. "Deak" Lane, 80, of Topeka, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 at his home.
He was born April 29, 1930 in Cleburne, KS, the son of Clifford and Hazel (Lamb) Lane. He was a graduate of Cleburne High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Lane retired as a self-employed truck driver.
He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, later known as New Hope Church, Topeka Lodge No. 17 A.F. &A.M., York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Arab Shrine.
Deak married Jean Peterson in 1950 in Manhattan, KS. They later divorced. He married Carlene Beaty in 1973 in Topeka. She preceded him in death in May 1999. He married Gloria Pittman on May 31, 2003 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Rex (Elizabeth) Lane, Atchison, KS a daughter, Kerye (Allan) Jackson, Topeka; two step-sons, John (Sue) Lane, Portland, OR and Richard (Leslie) Purser, Topeka and; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty Shortt, Belvue, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Howard and Orville "Bus" Lane.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at New Hope United Methodist Church, 2915 SW 8th Ave, Topeka, KS 66606. Ft. Riley military honors and interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Lane will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Masonic services will be 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church.
