OBITUARY: MARION LANE JONES
Marion Lane Jones, 81, Topeka, died Sun., Oct. 24, 2010. He was born June 22, 1929, at St. Francis, AR, the son of Harry B. and Mary (Jennings) Jones. Marion served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He moved to Emporia in 1960 and to Topeka in 1980. He was the supervisor over electronics technicians for the FAA at Forbes Field, retiring in 1988. Marion was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Gideon International, and Red Dale Camping Club. He had been a Boy Scout Leader in Emporia and was a lay minister. Marion was married to Maggie S. Gettings on Sept. 1, 1950, in St. Francis, AR. She survives. Also surviving are a son: Thomas L. Jones (Rhonda) of Ocean Springs, MS; a daughter: Sonia E. Lawrence (Eric) of Perry; a brother: J.D. Jones (Ruby) of Poplar Bluff, MO; 4 grandchildren: Skyler Jones (Karen), Jade Jones, Caleb Jones, and Danielle Lawrence; and a great-grandson: Bennett Jones. He was preceded in death by a son: David Alan Jones in June, 1963. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Sat., Oct. 30, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. A U.S. Marine Corps detail will conduct military honors at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry. Marion will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
