Marilyn went to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2013. She was born Marilyn Jean Maupin on January 12, 1932 with her twin brother, Thereon in Topeka, Kansas. Marilyn's older brother, Duane preceded her in death. When Marilyn was just "knee high to a grasshopper" she met John Frances Olson, they grew up together playing ball, having fun and enjoying life as young people do. On March 22, 1951 Marilyn and John married in Topeka, and they continued their beautiful love story for the next 62 years.
Marilyn and John moved from Topeka, Kansas to Columbia, Missouri in 1962, and their family grew when their pride and joy, son Kevin Leigh was born. In 1971 Marilyn and John were on the road again, moving from Columbia to Tempe, Arizona, where they made their home. Marilyn worked for the Temple School District; she was a highly respected employee who won many awards for her dedication and commitment.
Marilyn enjoyed watching sports, especially, Kevin and his friends, but also enjoyed many sporting events with John. She loved to socialize and has been beloved by many people in her life time. Her friendly nature and always willing to lend a hand or ear will continue to touch those who knew her in so many ways.
Throughout her life she demonstrated faith, courage, independence and great joy with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind her husband, John, son Kevin, daughter-in-law Cathy and another great joy of her life, grand-daughter, Valentina.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Silver Lake Cemetery, Silver Lake, Kansas. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
