Marian Irene Tipton

OBITUARY: Marian Irene Miller Tipton
Marian Irene Miller Tipton, age 84, passed away, Feb. 13, 2010, at Midland Hospice Care surrounded by her family. Marian was born June 11, 1925, in Topeka, the daughter of Buena Mae Gooden Miller and Clarence Francis Miller, Sr. She was a lifelong Topeka resident. Marian graduated from Highland Park High School in 1943 and had enjoyed attending her school reunions.
She married Robert L. Tipton on Sept. 29, 1945, and began a union that produced 3 children and lasted 59 years. Robert preceded her in death on April 4, 2004. During their marriage Robert taught Marian to play golf which she did very well. She was the city 9 hole champion for several years in the 1970's. They also enjoyed bowling and going to the casino.
Marian worked at several businesses in Topeka including Stearns Paints and Wilcox RV's but enjoyed most her job as a bookkeeper at Midwest Machine Works. She also operated Wardrobe Unique, a consignment shop in North Topeka, with her friend Norma Woolsey.
Marian enjoyed her family and had a special relationship with each of her 3 children. She was an avid K-State fan which led to good-hearted bantering with her oldest son, Mike, a die-hard KU fan. She greatly enjoyed her weekly shopping trips with son, Tom, who tended to take the scenic route on their various outings. On Sundays she could be found rooting for the Chiefs at her daughter Jill's house. She will be dearly missed and so lovingly remembered by her family.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother C. Francis "Fran" Miller, Jr., and her favorite son-in-law, Willie C. Bell.
She is survived by 2 sons: Michael Tipton & wife Ruth, Thomas Tipton & wife Erika; daughter: Jill Tipton-Bell; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thurs., Feb. 18, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Private interment of cremains in Rochester Cemetery.
