Marian Lee Bednasek, 85, of Topeka, passed away on March 21, 2022.
She was born on April 23, 1936 to Walter and Minnie (Baker) Harrison in Topeka, KS. Marian graduated from Topeka High School in 1954. After graduation she worked for the Shawnee County Extension Office. On September 13, 1959, she married Kenneth Lee Bednasek, and started their family.
Later she earned her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas and graduated with honors.
Marian worked for the Shawnee County Youth Center of Topeka for much of her life as well as Catholic Social Services, Shawnee County Mental Health Center, and Shawnee Count Department of Corrections.
She was a lifelong member of the Noon Goons and Friends of the Topeka Zoo. She also attended St. John's Lutheran Church.
Marian loved to play crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She loved to travel, making it to 49 states in her lifetime. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with her family.
Marian is survived by her children, Shawn (Terri) Bednasek, Brian (Kimberly) Bednasek, and Serena (Cory) Laird; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and her dog Lisa Marie and Fritz the Monkey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee Bednasek; both of her parents; siblings, Gene Harrison, Jim Harrison, Margie Benoit, Mildred Prevosti, Maxine Halloran, and 4 siblings that passed away in childhood.
A private inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Preston Hall at Ward Meade Park located at 124 NW Fillmore Street, Topeka, KS 66606 on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society or to the American Breast Cancer Society.
