OBITUARY: Marguerite Mae Jones
Marguerite Mae Jones, 87, Topeka passed away Tuesday, April 05, 2005 at Plaza West Regional Health Center. She was born April 12, 1917 at Richmond, KS the daughter of Fred and Maggie Mae Lowry Hicks.
Following graduation from Richmond High School, Mrs. Jones attended Lawrence Business College where she trained as a special secretary. Before her marriage she had worked as a medical secretary at the Osawatomie State Hospital followed by working at the Topeka Air Base; the Herington Air Base and the Veterans Administration of Topeka as a secretary. After her marriage she worked for the Menninger Foundation for 20 years before she retired in 1982.
She was a member of the Potwin Presbyterian Church; Hilltoppers and the Dorcus Society of the church.
She was married to Kenneth M. Jones on June 22, 1947 at Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1981.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl M. Turner and her husband, Ben, of Topeka; a son, Daryl Jones of Austin, TX; two grandsons: Daniel Turner of Gardner, KS; Joel Turner of Emporia and two great-grandchildren: Madelyn and Landon Turner of Gardner.
Committal services will be 11:00 a.m. Fri., April 8, 2005 at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Jones will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Thurs. at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Potwin Presbyterian Church, 400 SW Washburn, Topeka, KS 66606-1522; Meals On Wheels, 1500 SW Tenth, Topeka, KS 66604; OR Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Rd, Topeka, KS 66617.
