OBITUARY: Margie M. Metzger Erickson
Margie May Metzger Erickson, 82, of Topeka, died Tues., April 26, 2011, at Homestead Assisted Living. She was born June 16, 1928, in Topeka, the daughter of Don C. and Carrie L. (Peyton) Metzger. Margie graduated from Topeka High School. She was a member of the National Assoc. of Federal Employees and had attended Northland Christian Church. She was a member of Seaman Congregational Church and a former member of the Moose Auxiliary and the Auxiliary to North Post # 400 of the American Legion. Margie and John were avid supporters of Helping Hands Humane Society and The Topeka Rescue Mission. Margie was married to Melcher "John" Erickson, Jr. on May 19, 1945, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Mary Paxton; and a brother: Wm. Dean Metzger. Surviving are her beloved Yorkshire Terrier: Buddy Boy; a brother: Walter Metzger; 4 sisters: Darlene Maley, JoAnn Franks, Donna Brandenburgh, and Sue Bigham all of Topeka; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Fri., April 29, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Private interment in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Margie will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thurs., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
