Margery L. Reed

Margery L. Reed, 87, went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2023 at home with her family by her side and beloved gospel music playing in the background.  She was born December 14, 1935 the daughter of Frank and Matie Watts the youngest of three children, on the family farm near Quenemo, Kansas.  She made her most important life decision to accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 16.  She graduated from Quenemo High School in 1953.  Margery worked at the Stormont-Vail and KNI.  Later she worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital as a drug and alcohol counselor over 30 years.

Margery loved to go to church.  Sometimes when physically it was hard to go, she went.  Margery attended church until very recently.  She was a longtime member of Wanamaker Road Baptist Church.   Traveling, camping, putting puzzles together, dominos weekly family and friends, spending time with her family and grandkids and gospel music.

Margery was married to Donald Diehl who precedes her in death.  Later she married Nova “Gene” Reed who precedes her in death in 1982.  Everett Cowan was Margery’s high school sweetheart.  After the death of their spouses, they reconnected after nearly 50 years.   The past ten years they have gone to many events, dinner, gatherings spending a lot of time together.

Margery was blessed to have and be survived by her daughters, Donna Fisher and husband Ace of Topeka, Matie Grubham and husband Bill of Lecompton and Cathy Crow and husband Tom of  Aiken, South Carolina; , six grandchildren; four great grandchildren including Brileigh who was the apple of Margery’s eye and nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded by her siblings, Merle Watts, Earl Ray Watts; daughter Rebecca Davis; grandson, Donnie Davis; granddaughter, Amber Grubham.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 23rd at Wanamaker Road Baptist Church, 2700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka Ks 66614.  Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11:00 am   Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday afternoon at Oak Hill Cemetery at Quenemo.  Memorial contributions may be made to Alpha Christian Home, P.O. Box 727, Perry, Kansas 66073-0727 or to Mission Dignity (Organization that helps retired pastors).  Mission Dignitys’ address is P.O.
