Margaret Leslie Armstrong, 90, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011.
She was born May 24, 1921 in Manhattan, KS, the daughter of Leslie and Ursula (Oldham) Collins. She was a graduate of Manhattan High School and Kansas State University where she received a BA in Music Education.
Mrs. Armstrong was retired from the Kansas Department of Education after over 25 years of service.
She was a member of West Side Christian Church, the Helena Chapter No. 210, Loyal Chapter 176 of the Order of Eastern Star and The Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Fidelity Shrine NO. 11 and Trinity Shrine No. 7.
Margaret married Robert Lee Armstrong on February 16, 1947 in Olathe, KS. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2008. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Waechter of Whiting, KS, a son, Myron Armstrong, Topeka; two grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tennyson Collins and a sister, Barbara Nyberg, both of Manhattan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, B. Laurie Collins.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Private family interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Margaret will lie in state from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
