OBITUARY: Margaret J. Glasgow
Margaret J. Glasgow, 94, Topeka, died Wed., Nov. 19, 2008, at her home. She was born Feb. 9, 1914, at Topeka, the oldest of six children born to Howard T. and Nettie (Stover) Jackson. She graduated from Lyman Grade School and Seaman High School. Margaret worked in Lou Falley's first market for 3 years. She was actively involved in her Lyman community while raising her children. She was proud to have worked on election boards for over 60 years. An accomplished seamstress, she had a custom drapery business in her home. At age 60, she opened Glasgow's, a lamp, antique, crafts, and drapery business; continuing until recently. She was an 84 year member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church; charter member and past president of Wayside Garden Club; 50 year member of Helena Chapter # 210, OES; Topeka Assembly # 24, Social Order of the Beauceant; Northeast Kansas Doll Club; and Women of the Moose.
Margaret was married to Harry W. Glasgow on Aug. 17, 1935, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Jackson; a great-grandson, Brandon Hitt; a son-in-law: Joseph L. Miller, Sr.; and a grandson-in-law: Larry Tubbs. Surviving are her children: Doris Fae (Thomas J.) Chamberlain of Montrose, CO, Dorothy Kay Miller of Topeka, and Jerry William (Linda) Glasgow of Topeka; a sister: Elizabeth Wooster-Petrik of Topeka; 3 brothers: Elmer Jackson of Topeka, Harley Jackson of Grand Junction, CO, and Sharon Wesley Jackson of Salina; 9 grandchildren: J. Bradley Hitt, Brian Hitt, Barry Hitt, Brenda Metheny, Paula Tubbs, Kirk Wm. Miller, Sr., Joseph L. "Jay" Miller, Jr., Jeffery Glasgow, and Justin Glasgow; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., Nov. 22, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Interment in Rochester Cemetery. Margaret will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
