Margaret Harney

Margaret Jane Harney, 97, passed away on April 4, 2024 in Topeka, Kansas. She was born June 19, 1926 in Cherryvale, Kansas. The only child of Mettie Pearl Stevenson and Charles Elmer Robinson. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Cherryvale, KS. In 1944 she graduated from Cherryvale High School –"The Fighting Cherries!" December 9, 1944 Margaret married James Edwin Harney. He worked for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. James preceded her in death on January 24, 1978.

Surviving Margaret are her three children: Christine Casper (Joe T., III) of Mandeville, LA, Cathy Robin Schultz (Gary) of Topeka, KS, and James Steven Harney (Marijo) of Clifton, IL.

Grandchildren: J.T. (Bliss) Casper of Mandeville, LA, Meg (Eric) Sunstrum of Baton Rouge, LA, Ann-Marie (Patrick) Duffy of Athlone, Ireland, Jamie (Jim) Zeilenga of Manteno, IL, and Jodi (Mike) Osborn, of Manteno, IL.

Great-grandchildren: Taylor Casper, Patrick and James Duffy, Kayla, Trevor, and Spencer Michalesko, and Avery and Parker Osborn.

Margaret worked for the Topeka Public Schools in the cafeteria at Eisenhower Jr. High for 10 years. She volunteered as a room mother and helped with the Girl Scout and Boy Scouts, the Red Cross and MS of Topeka, for many years she was a member of the Topeka Sod Stompers and had walked 10 K events in all 50 states. At the age of 72, she climbed 'Harney Peak' in South Dakota with her children and the Duffy's. A favorite hobby was genealogy. She will be dearly missed for her love, laughter and straight forward honesty. (No filters).

Private family services will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas.
