Margaret Elizabeth Hoover

Margaret Elizabeth Hoover, 93, Lawrence, formerly of Topeka, died Monday July 25, 2016. She was born December 20, 1922, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of Otis Earl and Jessie Mae (Rhodehamel) Hoover
.
After graduating from Overbrook High School and attending Clark's Business College she was employed by Stormont-Vail Hospital, Winter Veterans Hospital, John Morrell and Company, American Stan, 432 Special Depot, and Kansas Social Welfare. In 1985 Margaret retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 27 years of service. She was a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America and First United Methodist Church of Topeka.

She was a gentle soul who thought of her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews as her children. Margaret loved traveling and vacationing with her sister, brothers and their families. Margaret was a gifted quilter, cook and could make any houseplant thrive. For many years she addressed and mailed invitations to the Hoover Family Reunion and, with her sweet smile, greeted each relative as they arrived.

Surviving are: brother: Marion Hoover (Carol) of Niceville, FL; sister-in-law: Ella Hoover of Topeka; nieces and nephews: Lynda Lippert (Ray) of Lyndon, Joyce Senn (Ken) of Holton, Connie Detweiler (Dennis) of Lawrence, Ron Hoover (Gwen) of Olathe, Carrie Hicks (Chuck) of Garland, TX, Ted Hoover (Barbara) of Aurora, CO, and Sam Hoover of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Alberta Hoover; brothers: Melvin Hoover, Arthur Hoover, and Foster Hoover; a nephew: William Hoover; niece: Judith Weekes; and grand-nephew: Daniel Hoover.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday August 2, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery and Chapel, 4700 SW Seventeenth, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
