Marcheta Dianne Goebel, 75, of Auburn, passed away on January 9, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She was born on July 27, 1946 to Eldon and Wilma (Weiler) Roberts in Topeka, KS.
Marcheta graduated from Topeka High School in 1964. After graduation she began working at Duffens Optical for 3 years until she met her husband.
On February 18, 1967, Marcheta married Gary L. Goebel in Topeka, Kansas and together they had 3 children. Although she gave her heart to Gary, anyone who knew her knew she always had a deep-seated love for George Jones.
Marcheta worked for Josten's as a Batch Page Operator for 45 years helping to create the beautiful yearbooks that line many shelves of Topeka area graduates. She enjoyed her many friendships that were created and continued throughout her retirement.
She grew up playing fastpitch softball and instilled a passion within her children and grandchildren for the 'love of the game'. She played on PEPSI/7-UP's team with her sisters and even won MVP while being 8 months pregnant with her daughter. She could always be found at the ball diamond, whether coaching, umpiring or "both" from the bleachers for her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Her passion for sports endured till the very end.
She was a member of Topeka Baptist Church and when she was able to still contribute, she participated in playing in Praise Bands, various Country Gospel bands with her husband and other family members, by playing her electric bass guitar for over 45 years. She earned the name 'Thumpr' due to her ability to 'thump that bass like no other woman'. She loved to play music for the Lord.
Marcheta is survived by her loving husband, Gary; children, Martin Goebel, Jason Goebel, and Renae (Terry) Blackwell; siblings, Kenny (Sandy) R. Roberts, Walt (Dee) Roberts, Larry Roberts, and Tommy Roberts; grandchildren, Devon (Elizabeth) Long, Megan Goebel, Austin (Sam) Long, Tristyn (Addi) Goebel, Adrianna (Trenton) Goebel-Jones, Olyvia Goebel, and Gracey "Rein" Goebel; great grandchildren, Elliana Long, Raelyn Long, Addison Long, Kimber Jo Long, and a great granddaughter on the way, Parker Goebel-Jones.
