Mamie L. Setchell, 87, of Topeka, passed away, Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
She was born February 25, 1919 in Frankfort, Kansas the daughter of George W. and Alice J. Mackey Nester.
Mamie moved to Topeka in 1936 where she met and married Waldo D. Setchell on September 2, 1939, and spent 56 years in her home in North Topeka. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Philip Billard Post #1650 V.F.W. and served as a volunteer at Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband on September 15, 1987 and by her brother William L. Nester. Survivors include two sons, Donald E. Setchell and wife Selinda, of Wichita and William H. Setchell and wife Kimberly, of Mulvane, her grandchildren, Stephanie A. Hope (Chuck), Nicole D. Laird (Chad), Nicholas J. Setchell, Gregory S. Setchell, Sarah I. Setchell and her great grandchildren, Bailey and Brett Hope.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue. Burial will follow at Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Setchell will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening.
