Madeline Rose Hanson, 79, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House.
She was born May 15, 1933 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Adam Jacob and Magdalene Mary (Stieb) Kass.
Mrs. Hanson was retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after over 35 years of professional service.
Mag was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Topeka, and found joy dedicating her time and volunteering her services to the church.
Madeline married Donald Leonard Hanson on February 16, 1952, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 7, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Christine (Mike Post) Sharkey Post, Lee's Summit, MO and Janine (Greg) Frederick, Topeka; two sons, Donald Michael Hanson, Topeka and David Duane (Susan) Hanson, Overland Park, KS; eight grandchildren, Brandi Lee, Amanda Leung, Jeff Sharkey, Tony Frederick, Angela Pensick, Donnie Tyler Hanson and Samantha and Ashlen Hanson; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Kass.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 8 siblings, John, Adam "Casey", Francis, Joseph and George Kass and Marie Snook, Rose White and Ann Corey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman, Topeka, KS 66616. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. Madeline will lie in state after 5 p.m., Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. At Maggie's request, the casket will remain closed.
