OBITUARY: M. Kathleen "Katie" Mace
M. Kathleen "Katie" Mace, 89, Topeka, died Tues., Jan. 8, 2013, at Midland Hospice House. She was born March 15, 1923, at Fairbury, NE, the daughter of Timothy F. and Martha M. (Wilkey) Critchlow.
She was a graduate of Topeka High School and had played in a girls' softball league. She was married to Robert Stratton Mace on Sept. 28, 1941, in Holton. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2001. They had owned and operated Mace Hy-Klas Grocery and Jayhawk Food Dealers Assoc. in North Topeka. She was a member of Seaman Congregational Church, Arab Shrine Ladies, and Monday Bridge Club. Surviving are a daughter: Karla S. Estes (Mike) of Topeka; a daughter-in-law: Barb Mace of Topeka; grandchildren: Chris Estes (Dotty), Stacie Shaffer (Kirk), Jayme Williams (James), Shellie Estes, Megan Mace, and Kevin Mace; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Douglas Mace, on Sept. 30, 2006.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM, Sat., Jan. 12, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Ave. Kathleen will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.
