M. Ilene Favand

M. Ilene Favand, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at a Topeka hospital. She was born July 29, 1926 in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Vernon C. and Ozetta (Shetron) Viola.

Ilene graduated from Abilene High School and attended Hutchinson Business School. She was employed by Kansas Power & Light Co. in Abilene, the University of Kansas and J.C. Penney's. She had resided in Topeka since the late 1940's. She and her husband enjoyed riding their Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Ilene married Emile "Gene" Favand on August 9, 1946 in Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1989. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Corber in December, 2009 and two brothers, Don Viola and Junior Viola.

Survivors include two children, Larry E. (Diana) Favand and Deanna Favand, four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and her siblings, Ralph Viola and Bobbie Viola.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 S.W. 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
