OBITUARY: M. Blanche Child
M. Blanche Child, 97, Topeka, died Sun., Feb. 10, 2013, at Rolling Hills Health Center. She was born Nov. 16, 1915, at Elmont, the daughter of Douglas C. Child, Sr. and Florence L. (Peters) Child.
She graduated from Seaman High School. Blanche had worked for Stauffer Publications, was personal secretary to Mrs. George Docking, and retired from the Kansas State Department of Banking at age 75. S
he was a member of the Auxiliary to Philip Billard Post # 1650, VFW, and served as the Auxiliary's secretary for many years. Blanche was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She had been a volunteer at Colmery-O'Neil VAMC.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Douglas C. "Bud" Child, Jr. and Robert M. Child, Sr.; and a sister: Grace M. Miller. Surviving are a sister-in-law: Mary Child of Holton; 7 nieces and nephews; 21 great nieces and nephews; and 2 great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Interment in Prairie Home Cemetery. Blanche will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thurs., at the funeral chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
