Lyle L. Lee, 72, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012.
He was born November 9, 1939 in Vermillion, KS, the son of John W. and Mayme (Marcy) Lee. He was a graduate of Vermillion High School in 1957. Following graduation he joined the US Army on March 5th, 1959. He was a part of the 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery out of Forth Lewis, Washington.
Mr. Lee was employed by the city of Holton (water treatment plant) and for the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation and most recently was enjoying life as a retiree.
He was a member of American Legion post No 257 in Vermillion and was an active member of the YMCA in Topeka.
Lyle married Rebecca Spears Sullivan. They were divorced. Survivors include a daughter, Anna L. Garner and husband Jason, Topeka; and a son, Matthew Sullivan, Ozawkie; and a brother, Arthur Lee and wife Diane, Wichita, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Calvin, Robert and Clyde Lee.
Lyle was a simple man and enjoyed his day to day activity such as working the daily crossword puzzle from the paper, working outdoors, and watching his favorite sports team (Kansas State University). Being with his family and friends is when he truly rose to the occasion, by telling stories and sliding a joke in and making the whole room light up with laughter. He was a man that was full of joy and laughter and wanted all to feel the happiness that was him.
Honoring his request, Mr. Lee was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Vermillion Christian Church in Vermillion. Interment of cremated remains will be at the Vermillion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Vermillion American Legion Post No. 257. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel is assisting the family.
