Lyda S. Amon, 100, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Medicalodges Jackson County where she had resided since 2019.
She was born August 3, 1923, in Whiting, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph A. and Johanna (Brackhahn) Davidson. Her father passed when she was five years old. She was raised by her mother and step-father, James C. Monhollon. She was a 1942 graduate of Netawaka High School and was proud to be one of the oldest alumni to attend the reunion banquet.
She was a member of the Netawaka Lutheran Church, a Lifetime member of Women of the Moose Lodge No. 555, as well as, active in Eastern Star and Arab Shrine Temple in Topeka.
Lyda married Oscar H. Amon on January 11, 1945 in St. Marys, Kansas. They made their home in the Netawaka community where they farmed until 1974, then moved to Topeka. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2000. Survivors include three sons, Joseph (Donna) Amon of Hoyt, KS, Chester (Diana) Amon of Lewis, KS and Henry "Skip" (Janelle) Amon of Topeka; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her brother, James Monhollon of Independence, MO; her sisters-in-law, Erma Monhollon of Cortland, NE and Sharon Monhollon of Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father; three brothers, Glenn Davidson and John and Paul Monhollon; and her sisters-in-law, Tressie Davidson and Susie Monhollon.
Lyda and Oscar loved to dance and were frequent attendees at Saturday night dances at the Netawaka Hall, Moose and Shrine. After these dances they would continue fellowship at their residence serving breakfast to all who attended. They also enjoyed traveling in their motor home to Texas in the winter. During the summer they would take their grandchildren to other vacation spots.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.
A funeral ceremony will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the funeral home.
A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday at Netawaka Cemetery, Netawaka, Kansas.
