Luther D. Atkins, 82, of Escacada, OR, formerly of Topeka and Jacksonville, AR, passed away Monday, August 30, 2010.
He was born December 16, 1927 in Topeka, the son of McKinley and Anna (Fannin) Atkins. He attended Rock Creek High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II. He was retired as a professional plumber. He was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include his sister, Laena "Jo" Bengtson of Huntsville, AL; a granddaughter, Mara Hooper of Escacada, OR; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; seven nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bobby Atkins, a brother, Donald C. Atkins and two sisters, Vivian Zeferjahn and Bonnie Trueblood.
Funeral services for 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mr. Atkins will lie in state from 3-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
