Lura Ann Attig, born on September 1, 1942, in Brunswick, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, in Auburn, Kansas.
In 1961, while both were serving in the U.S. Navy, Lura met the love of her life, Jack Attig. Their bond not only flourished during their time in the military, but also grew stronger through the shared experiences of life together. Lura was a proud member of the military, demonstrating her commitment and service by later rejoining with the Kansas Air National Guard. Her professional journey led her to work for the Kansas Insurance Department, the Kansas Agricultural Department, and the Kansas Legislature, where she made meaningful contributions throughout her career.
Lura had many passions outside of her professional endeavors. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, often pouring her creativity into these crafts. Caring for children was also a significant part of her life, showcasing her nurturing spirit. As a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church, Lura found joy and community within her faith, fostering connections that enriched her life.
Lura is survived by her children, Jack Attig Jr. and Melissa Ann (Attig) Garrett, of Topeka. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Amanda, Kaitlyn, and Emily, and her great-grandchildren: Cheyenne, Savanna, Jacob, Nash, Jaxon, Rudy, Porter, and Whitley. They will forever hold in their hearts the loving memories of their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Lura was preceded in death by her parents, William Albert Siefkas and Beulah Mae (Crewse) Siefkas, as well as her infant sister May Lou Siefkas. She is also mourned by the memory of her daughter, Tracy, and great-granddaughter, Adelina. Lura now reunites with her brothers, William Albert Siefkas Jr., Robert Eugene Siefkas, Ronald Lee Siefkas, and Kenneth Ray Siefkas in eternal peace.
