Lua Elizabeth Buening

Lua Elizabeth Buening, 85, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Plaza West Regional Health Center, Topeka. She was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Lawrence, the daughter of Dr. Edward and Edith Lua (McCammon) Bumgardner. She lived in Valley Falls from 1954 to 1970, in Arvada, Colo., from 1970 to 1991, and has been a Topeka resident since 1991. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence with the Class of 1936. She attended Washburn University. She worked for Adolph Coors Co. as a bookkeeper for 12 years. Mrs. Buening was a former member of ADAH Chapter No. 7, OES of Lawrence, was a member and secretary of Topeka Chapter No. 37, AARP, and was a life member of PT Boats Inc. She married Lawrence T. Buening on Aug. 27, 1948, in Kansas City, Kan. Lawrence T. Buening Sr. died June 22, 1990. Surviving are a son, Lawrence T. Buening Jr., Topeka, a son, James D. Buening, Denver, and a son, Stephen J. Buening, Arvada, Colo.; a brother, Edward Bumgardner, Lawrence; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Private interment of cremains will be in Valley Falls cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Buening will lie in state after 3 p.m. Monday at Parker-Price Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Davids Episcopal Church, 3916 S.W. 17th, Topeka, 66604-2438.
