Loyd Hale Jenkins, 88, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010.
He was born December 15, 1921 in Belvue, KS, the son of Charles R. and Gladys (Perry) Jenkins. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School.
He owned and operated Jenkins & Doone Construction Company for many years. He later was a representative for the Kaw Valley District Council of Carpenters for 16 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 90 A.F. & A.M. and Scottish Rite. Loyd was also a member of the Topeka Arab Shriners for 15 years. He was the Past-President of the local and state Carpenters Union Local No. 1445 and a member of the union for 66 years. Loyd enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Shooting Stars Square Dancing Club.
Loyd married Frances "Irene" Britton on July 21, 1945 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2006. Survivors include a son, Bill Jenkins; daughter, Gladys Holmes, both of Topeka; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by grandson, Lance Allen Jenkins; and son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Holmes.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Jenkins will lie in state after 3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washburn Endowment Association, 1729 SW MacVicar, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
