Lowell L. Ellis, age 85, of Topeka passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Lexington Park in Topeka. Lowell was born August 15, 1931 in Topeka the son of Robert and Lulu McFarland Ellis. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 -1954 with the 38 th Parallel. He married Coraleen Murray May 4, 1952 in Topeka. She survives. Lowell worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He then worked part time for Dillons Grocery. Lowell was a longtime member of the West Side Christian Church where sang in the choir and served as Elder Emeritus. Lowell enjoyed spending time oil painting and being outdoors. He also was active with Boy Scout Troop #29.
Lowell is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Coraleen; a son, Mark (Kathy) Ellis of Wakarusa; a daughter, Pam (Rod) Wachsnicht of Topeka; three grandchildren, Leslie Folks, Timothy Deckenbach and Dylan Wachsnicht and four great grandchildren, Lexus Folks, Shaun Folks, MacKenzie Folks and Madison Wachsnicht.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the West Side Christian Church. He will lie in state Wednesday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the West Side Christian Church and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com.
