OBITUARY: Louis Loy Smith, Sr.

Louis Loy Smith, Sr., 64, Topeka, died Sat., Nov. 22, 2008, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born Oct. 7, 1944, at Yakima, WA, the son of Vernon Z. and Martha E. (Lindeman) Smith. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Aug., 2005, after 40 years of service.

Louis was married to Ellen Marie Johnson on July 8, 1964, at Poteau, OK. She survives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie May, in Oct., 1983; his parents; and a sister, Nova Hott.

Surviving are his wife: Ellen M. Smith of the home; 2 sons: Louis Loy Smith, Jr. and Terry Allen Smith (Vicky) all of Topeka; a brother: William Z. Smith of McAlester, OK; 2 sisters: Ruby McGonigle of New Jersey and Wilma Smith of Wellsville; 3 grandchildren: Scott Smith, Maci Smith, and Morgan Smith; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wed., Nov. 26, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Interment in Prairie Home Cemetery. Louis will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tues., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
