OBITUARY: Lola Pearl Bowman
Lola Pearl Bowman, 101, Winchester, Ks., died Dec. 12, 2005. She was born July 20, 1904, in Elyria, Ks., one of two children born to Walter and Pearl Brock Conroy. While Lola was a child the family moved to Topeka, where they were in the grocery business.
Lola attended Topeka Schools graduating from Topeka High School. She attended Washburn College and a Topeka business school. On Oct. 24, 1925, she married Clarence Bowman of Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1967. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Conroy.
Lola was an accountant and bookkeeper and had employment at Kansas State Highway Department, Kaw Paving Co., and Martin-Marietta Materials. She also assisted her husband in the upholstery business.
Lola lived in North Topeka during her working years. In her retirement years she built two new homes and remodeled another in the Ozawkie, Ks. vicinity. Later she moved to Nortonville and remodeled her home there. In 2003, she moved to the assisted living unit at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in Winchester. Also in her retirement Lola enjoyed art work, producing many paintings enjoyed by her friends.
Lola is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Lola will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka from 10:00 a.m. Wed. to 10:00 a.m. Thurs. At the request of Mrs. Bowman a brief service will be at the graveside at Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery, 6th and Gage, Topeka, at 11:00 a.m. Thurs., Dec. 15, 2005.
