Lois M. Ausherman, 94, of Topeka passed away on March 10, 2025. She was born August 26, 1930 in Ozawkie, Kansas the daughter of Clarence W. and Jessie M. (Roberts) Chitwood. Lois attended Seaman High School while growing up and graduated in 1948.
She was married to Harold Ausherman on April 25, 1950 at Topeka, Kansas. Harold preceded her in death on May 17, 1974. She worked at Wagner’s Café before moving to Florida in 1950. In Florida she worked at the Gulf Beach Resort for 50 years. She helped get the resort listed on the Historical Register. She attended the church in Sarasota, Florida. Lois loved to water ski and work on word search puzzles. Lois was a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge. In 2011 she moved back to Topeka and lived at Aldersgate Village. She enjoyed going to nursing homes to read to the residents and taking them prizes for bingo games they played.
Survivors include her niece and care giver, Debbie Busey of Topeka; sister-in law, Diane Chitwood and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband, parents, four brothers, Robert Chitwood, Merle Chitwood, Daryl Chitwood, Donald Chitwood and two sisters, Ruth Ann Culbreth and Irene Robertson.
Graveside services will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery on Wednesday, March 19th at 11:00 am. She will lie state from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 18th at the Parker-Price and Davidson, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, Kansas 66608. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society.
