Lloyd Andrew "Nick" Barbarow
Lloyd Andrew Barbarow "Nick", 86, Topeka, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at a Topeka nursing home. Nick was born March 22, 1918, in Maple Hill, to Fergus and Ethyl Knapp Barbarow. He attended Topeka High School. He served his country during World War II in the Army. He was a typewriter and stenograph repairman for State Typewriter and retired in 1983 from State Office Systems (SOS). Mr. Barbarow was a member of Highland Heights Christian Church. He was a team member of the Golden Timers bowling league until last May. He was Santa Claus at Dillons from 1993 to 1996. He married Ruth Meakins in 1940. She preceded him in death two weeks ago on Sept. 8, 2004. He also was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jeff and Joe Weigel. Survivors include a daughter, Linda, and her husband, Jerry Weigel, Tecumseh; a son, Thomas Andrew Barbarow, Rosenberg, Texas; a sister, Elsie Mae Barbarow McCann, Topeka; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Mr. Barbarow will lie in state at the funeral chapel after 3 p.m. today, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by a funeral detail from Fort Riley.
