Suzy Jones, 86, of Topeka was born July 21, 1937 in Arkansas City, Kansas the daughter of Kenneth Hudson and Goldie Sherrod Hudson. She grew up in the Springdale community and attended school and graduated at Jarbalo. She attended the Quaker Church at Springdale growing up. She married Howard Jones in 1956. They lived in Lawrence most of the time they were married. He preceded her in death in 1986. While living in Lawrence she worked at the ASCS office for the Department of Agriculture.
After retiring she lived several years at Silver Lake before moving to Topeka. She met Don Whalen, spending the last 25 years together. They enjoyed RVing and traveling together. They wintered in Texas and enjoyed going everywhere they could in the United States and Canada. Suzy also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. After retiring, she also worked at the Prairie Band Casino at Mayetta and during her travels volunteered with Don working for the Parks Department with the state of Florida for nine years.
Survivors include her sons, Howard Jones of Baldwin City, Donald Jones (Donna) of Madison, Alabama; life co-pilot, Don Whalen of Topeka; grandchildren, Dawn Day (Connor) of Lawrence, Brian Jones (Ellen) of Lawrence, Ashley Heath (Jerry) in Alabama; great grandchildren, Calli Day, Robert Day, Jeremiah Jones, Micah Jones, Blake Heath and Tyler Heath. Don’s family, Deanna Karle, Robin Myers, Todd Whalen; Linda’s brother, Gary Hudson of Topeka and her ex-daughter in law, Sheri Holladay of Lawrence.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Lynette who died in infancy in 1961.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 am on Monday morning, July 8th at the Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am at the church. Graveside services will held at the Sunset Memory Gardens west of Leavenworth on K92 Highway. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church, 6020 SE 44th Street, Tecumseh, Kansas 66542.
