Topeka

Linda Lee Hines, a compassionate soul whose life was dedicated to rescuing animals and enhancing the lives of those around her, passed away on December 19, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on August 1, 1936, in Rome City, Indiana, Linda was a graduate of Seaman High School, class of 1954.

A devoted advocate for animals, Linda was a licensed opossum rescuer for Northeast Kansas Wildlife Rescue, showcasing her big heart and unwavering love for all creatures. Her compassion extended beyond the animal kingdom; she was a beloved member of the Oakland United Methodist Church where she actively served on several committees and lent her voice to the choir. She volunteered for Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

Professionally, Linda dedicated many years of service working at KNI. However, it was her extensive volunteer work and commitment to her community that truly defined her legacy. She was known for her kindness and generosity, often seen loving and caring for the neighborhood kids, who fondly remembered her as someone who went above and beyond.

Linda's warmth and commitment to family and community are survived by her brothers, Sam Chenoweth, Jim (Beverly) Chenoweth, and Tim Chenoweth, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry on her spirit of love and giving.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Hines, whom she married on February 25, 1967, in Palmer, Alaska, and her parents, Jesse Louis Ostrander and Frances P. (Lindemuth) Chenoweth as well as numerous pets that brought her joy and happiness.

Her legacy of love, service, and compassion will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Cremation is planned. No services will be held. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Marvin at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
