Linda Rae Butler, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, gracefully departed this world on March 4, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 83. She was born on April 21, 1941, in Harveyville, Kansas, and though she was known for her shy demeanor, she possessed a delightful mix of ornery charm and sneaky humor that endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Linda began her journey through life with a strong foundation, graduating from Scranton High School in 1959. Her career took her down various paths, from working as an assistant clerk at Topeka Capital Journal in her younger years to an at home babysitter, then she later spent her time raising her family and being a mother. She spent 30 years at Gage Baptist Church working in the nursery and she would listen to sermons through the speakers in the room. She worked part time with friends at Bobos Drive In. She would walk to her jobs year-round. When her and her family moved houses, they made sure to find a home within distance to her jobs, so she could continue to walk to work.
On June 1, 1962, Linda married John H. Butler, forging a loving partnership that continued until his passing on February 11, 2009. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter and love. Linda's unwavering strength, bolstered by her profound faith, guided her throughout life's challenges and joys.
As a devoted mother, Linda cherished her children, Chris Butler and Jodi Gooseman, and found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Danielle (Danni) Henderson and great-grandmother to Alexis Snyder, Henley Henderson, and Hutton Henderson. She also leaves behind Cheryl Kramer who was a wonderful caregiver that was like a daughter to her. Linda’s legacy of love will forever shine brightly in their hearts.
Linda was a vibrant spirit who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a deep appreciation for nature, often seen tending to her flowers and her yard, filling her surroundings with blooms and beauty. Her passion for puzzles and coloring illustrated her creative side, showcasing a mind full of curiosity and wonder. Linda also poured her love into the nursery at the First Baptist Church tending to children from newborn to 3 years old, where she was a cherished member, nurturing both the young ones and her faith.
One of the most poignant memories held by her daughter, Jodi, is the cherished tradition of visiting her dad's gravesite. Together, they would honor his memory, bringing care and decoration to the spot that was a continuous reminder of their love.
Linda is survived by her son, Chris Butler; her daughter, Jodi (Chuck) Gooseman; her sister, Laurajean "Poppy" Cogburn; her brother, Jerry Milbradt; her granddaughter, Danielle (Danni) Henderson; her great-grandchildren, Alexis Snyder, Henley Henderson, and Hutton Henderson; and her long-time family friend, Frank Lynn. She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Butler; her mother, Olive Marie Milbradt; her father, Frank Milbradt; her sisters, Irene Long, Verna Lee Kettleman, and Nellie Bradley; and her brother, Frank "Jimmy" Milbradt.
Linda faced the latter years of her life with remarkable courage as she battled Alzheimer's disease. Her journey was not an easy one; it was marked by both challenges and moments of grace. Despite the difficulty of her condition, Linda’s light shone through, touching those around her in profound ways. She exhibited an incredible resilience that inspired her loved ones to cherish every moment together.
