Lillian Pobrislo Keller
Lillian Pobrislo Keller, 89, of Topeka, passed away at Brewster Place on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004. She was born February 24, 1915 in Rossville to Czech parents Vincent and Mary Cerny Pobrislo. She was married to Philip W. Keller on June 2, 1943 in Topeka. He survives. At the age of 12, she had to help her foreign-born parents with all their business dealings. She looked after them through sickness and health, until they both went to the hereafter. She also helped raise her nephew, Joe Pobrislo. Mrs. Keller taught school for 39 years in the Delia community and at Silver Lake. Only one student she taught over the years ran into difficulty in adjusting to life. No teacher who taught during the times she did surpassed her while putting up with very difficult circumstances. She was educated in the Delia schools and Topeka High School. She graduated from Washburn University with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She was a member of the Kansas and National Teachers Association and the Topeka Area Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Keller always looked after the welfare of her husband, students and anyone who needed a helping hand. She has earned her place with the angels. She is survived by her husband Philip W. Keller, Topeka; a nephew Joe Pobrislo, Tucson, Ariz.; and many nephews and nieces. Mrs. Keller will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel after 3 p.m. today. Graveside services and burial will be conducted at Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be sent to Guardian Angels in care of Commerce Bank and Trust, Attn: Jody Olberding, 3035 S. Topeka, 66611. Online condolences may be sent to penwellgabel.com.
