OBITUARY: Lila Mae Smoot
Lila Mae Smoot, 69, Topeka, died Thurs., Oct. 12, 2006, at her home. She was born March 7, 1937, at Atlanta, MO, the daughter of Ellis Charles and Dolly Pearl (Reichelt) Michaels.
She retired from the V.A. Hosp. as a nurses' aid. She attended Pappan's Landing Senior Center and the Adam's Apple.
Lila was married to Harold Lee Smoot on June 5, 1955, at Bevier, MO. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 2002.
Surviviors include 3 sons: Michael Smoot, John Smoot, and David Smoot all of Topeka; 2 daughters: Charlene Smoot of Lakeland, FL and Cathy Bogia of Hillsboro, OR; a brother: Floyd Michaels of Ozawkie; a sister: Edna Williams of Topeka; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Mon., Oct. 16, 2006, at West Ridge Baptist Church, 5600 S.W. 17th. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Lila will lie in state after 1:00 p.m., Sun., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606-2800.
