OBITUARY: LeRoy "Nick" Berndt
LeRoy "Nick" Berndt passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005 after complications following a stroke. Nick was born Dec. 20, 1934 to Lewis and Gladys (Dellinger) Berndt.
He graduated from Lyons High School and the University of Kansas. He worked as a certified public accountant for Kansas Color Press, Hydra Tool and then was self-employed until his death.
He coached Legion and little league baseball; and Sunrise Optimist Basketball. Nick bowled competitively. He was a member of Kansas Alumni and Luncheon Optimist. He was an avid Jayhawk fan, pianist, fisherman and camper.
He married Anna Maye Streeter on Sept. 1, 1960. She survives. He is also survived by one brother, Dan Berndt and his wife, Joann; three sons and one daughter: Mike Berndt, his wife Michele and sons Shawn, Bobby and Eli; Richard Berndt, his wife Katrina; Bill Berndt, his wife Jodi and children Dawson and Lexis; Linda Laird, her husband Greg and sons Chad Harrison, Paul Harrison and John Dechand; a great-grandson, Brendan Harrison; and his beloved cat, Elvis.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Private family services will be held in Chase, KS at a later date.
