OBITUARY: Leonard D. "Red" Stalcup
Leonard D. "Red" Stalcup, 92, Topeka, passed away on Mon., Aug. 10, 2009, at Westwood Manor, Topeka. He was born in Centralia, to Steve and Alma Stalcup. Leonard graduated from Centralia High School in 1935. Leonard was a World War II Veteran serving with the First Engineer Co. on the Pacific Front where he received many honorable medals. On May 18, 1946, he married Erma May Fritch from Centralia. Leonard worked for Shawnee Motors and Jim Clark for many years as a mechanic. He was a member of Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; and his wife of 63 years. He is survived by a son: Richard Stalcup (Cindy) of Fort Lupton, CO; a daughter: Nancy Miller (Mike Waltman) of Topeka; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Aug. 13, 2009, at Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road, Topeka. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors. Leonard will lie in state after 4:00 PM, Wed., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
