Leo John Petrik, 98, Topeka, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born August 28, 1915, on a farm northwest of Caldwell, the son of Vincent and Edna Mae (Irey) Petrik.
Leo graduated from Caldwell High School in 1936. He worked in a funeral home in Blackwell, Oklahoma, before attending Williams Institute of Embalming, Kansas City, where he graduated in 1939. He had worked at a funeral home in Wichita before moving to Topeka working at Eslinger Funeral Home as a funeral director and embalmer and then in 1942 joined Parker Mortuary where he worked until 1998.
Leo was a member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church, Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF&AM, Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, and Helena Chapter # 210, O.E.S. He had been honored by the Kansas Funeral Directors Association.
Leo was married to Marguerite Aleta Weien on April 26, 1938, at Tologa, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on March 23, 1993. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Aleta Jo "Jody" Ott, on August 13, 2009; his parents; a twin sister in infancy; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Margaret.
Leo was married to Elizabeth Jackson Wooster on November 27, 1999, in Topeka.
Surviving are his wife: Elizabeth Jackson Wooster-Petrik of the home; a step-son: Charles Wooster (Marilyn) of Topeka; two step-daughters: Pat Wooster-Jackson (Gregg) of Sedalia, Colorado, and Marjorie Oathout (John) of Silver Lake; a nephew: Merle Gile (Dorothy) of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Mechele Ford of Topeka, Sheila Wooster of Parkville, Missouri, Lisa Oathout of Haysville, Tim Oathout of Topeka, Jeff Wooster of Topeka, Dr. Chris Jackson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Caitlin Hall of Springfield, Missouri; and seven great-grandchildren. A great-grandson, Alex, preceded him in death in 1997.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM, Friday, November 8, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, followed by a service conducted by Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF&AM. A committal service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Caldwell City Cemetery. Leo will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thursday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
