OBITUARY: Layle E. Bengtson



Layle E. Bengtson, 79, of Topeka, passed away on Mon., Dec. 24, 2007, at Midland Hospice House. He was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Gypsum, KS, the son of Swen and Maymie Bengtson. He married Mary Isabelle Adam on Dec. 25, 1954, in Council Grove, KS. He spent eight years in the Navy, and he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller and Data Systems Specialist. Survivors include his wife, Isabelle; and their children, Jerry (Karen) Bengtson, Longmont, CO, Ward (Margaret) Bengtson, Topeka, KS, and Cathy (Dale) Billings, Elkhorn, WI, and seven grandchildren: Aaron, Shawn, Joshua, Amber, Nicholas, Michael and Sarah. Layle is also survived by his brothers: Marvin and Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers: Earl, Lowell, Vernon, Dale and Carl.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Sat., Dec. 29, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. Layle will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Friday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM, Saturday.
