Lawrence J. Reed
Lawrence J. Reed, 79, Pine River, Minn., formerly of Topeka, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at a Woodbury, Minn., hospital. He was born Aug. 17 1924, in Deweese, Neb., the son of Frank and Nolma (Wiese) Reed. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 27, 1944, in Leavenworth, Kan., and was honorably discharged on Nov. 1, 1945. He lived in Topeka until 1955, then farmed west of Pequot Lakes, Minn., until moving to Pine River in 1997. He was a life member of Pequot Lakes American Legion Post 49, a life member and three times past commander of VFW Post 3839 in Jenkins, Minn., and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Joyce; two brothers and two sisters. Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Adele Reed, Marshall, Minn.; a son, Melvin Arnold, of Washington; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jarl Johansen, Bloomington, Minn.; a daughter, Margaret Shoenheider, Shoreview, Minn.; a sister, Myrtle Denney, Topeka; a sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Chester Self, Topeka; a sister, Frances Warboys, Lincoln, Neb.; a sister and brother-in-law, Cleo and Bill Smith, Pine River, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
