Lavonne Whitt

Lavonne Whitt, 77, of Topeka, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006 at her home after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease.

She was born February 8, 1929 in Topeka, the daughter of Frank and Martha Critchlow.

She was a 1947 graduate of Topeka High School. She held many positions with numerous local companies and was a fulltime homemaker and mother of three sons. She was a lifelong resident of the Oakland community and was a member of the Holliday Junior High School Reunion committee. She loved to play the organ for her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time in her yard. Her warm smile and gentle words will be missed by all who knew her.

She married Charles D. Whitt on June 21, 1947 in Topeka. He survives. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Richard D. Whitt in 1973 and five brothers.

Other survivors include two sons: Timothy M. Whitt and his wife Barbara and David A. Whitt, all of Topeka; a daughter in law, Joyce Whitt of Topeka;five grandchildren, Travis Whitt,Kirby Whitt, Jaime Whitt, Jackie Whitt and Leslie Davis, all of Topeka; four great grandchildren and one sister, Kathleen Mace of Topeka.

Mrs. Whitt will lie in state after 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm,Friday, April 28 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. As per Mrs. Whitt's request, the casket will remain closed.
