LaVon H. Lord, 97, Topeka, KS, passed away March 31, 2018.
LaVon was born June 11, 1920, in Westmoreland, KS, to Archie L. and Marie (Kreth) Cornelius. She graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1937 as valedictorian of her class. She received a one year scholarship to Kansas State College. LaVon went to Marysville, KS to attend a normal training school so she could teach in rural schools from 1939 to 1946.
She married Arnold L. Lord April 6, 1946. They moved to Topeka, KS. She was a member of Meriden United Methodist Church. She was also a member of T.O.P.S., Capital Sun Chasers and Railroad Sun Chasers camping clubs.
LaVon was preceded in by her husband; parents; brother, Wylie K. Cornelius on Topeka and Archie J. Cornelius of Bartlesville, OK.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Renee Lord; one sister, Bethuelle "Beth" Snook of Topeka; and brother, Kay L. (Nancy) Cornelius of Fort Worth, TX.
Funeral services will be 10am Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Burial will follow at 2pm in the Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm.
