LaVerda "Verdie" Marker
LaVerda "Verdie" Marker, 94, of Topeka, died Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Aldersgate Village. She was born March 19, 1920, at Meriden, the daughter of John Canady and Lillie Belle (Cunning) Collier.
Verdie graduated from Meriden High School in 1938. She was a tax examiner for the State of Kansas before retiring.
She was married to Raymond Ellis Marker on February 2, 1946, at Garden City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ellis Lynn Marker, on July 22, 2007.
Surviving are a son: Don Marker (Janette) of Yankton, SD; a daughter-in-law: Iris Marker of Topeka; grandchildren: Craig Marker of Topeka, Kimberly Kutzkie of Topeka, Erik Traxler of Beresford, SD, and Kyle Marker of Brookings, SD; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 8, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, KS. Interment in Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Road, Topeka, KS. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral chapel.
Following committal services family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Penwell-Gabel Famiy Center, 1940 NW Central Avenue, Topeka, KS.
